Acts of remembrance - About
Many older people would like a quiet act of remembrance to be spoken at a location that was significant in their lives such as a place that they shared with a loved one many years ago. However, they often find that for reasons of health, finance or politics they can no longer get to the favourite location. Cinnaminta provides the opportunity for a virtual visit to that location to carry out an act of remembrance.
Cinnaminta brings together the global network of people who would like to remember a departed family member or friend through reading out aloud in a special place and the people in those special places who are able to perform readings.
Attending the graves of loved ones abroad may be impossible for older people due to poor health. Some people may not feel able to visit a grave after a bereavement but still want a thought or message passed on. Cinnaminta helps people to help each other.
regards Cinnaminta
Through Cinnaminta you will become an active part of a global expression of humanity and discover the joy of writing and reading out aloud to remember the people who have meant most in our lives. You will be able to reach out, connect, share, and remember through people in other cultures around the world. You will be able to cross closed borders and cultural divides as a virtual traveller with minimal environmental impact.
You might prefer your reading to be:
- in the town in which your loved one was born;
- in the place that you lived in together;
- in a beautiful, tranquil place that you shared on holiday; or
- at the place where your loved one died, is buried or had their ashes scattered.
The choice is entirely yours.
The Cinnaminta Reading out aloud services are provided by the members for the members. When your act or remembrance has been read out and you have seen the recording, think how meaningful it would be if you could provide a reading for somebody else in one of the places that you can get to.
We expect that people will find all sort of ways to use the Cinnaminta services, such as group readings, singing, dancing, speech synthesizers, mime, translations, performance art and plenty more that we have not thought of. The Cinnaminta team are looking forwards to seeing how the internet community will use Cinnaminta. We hope that you will enjoy the experience but have to admit that we don't know quite where it will lead. The possibilities appear endless - how will you "leave no footprints, only vibrations"? Discover how you can use Cinnaminta to achieve this.
We would welcome any suggestions for ways in which we can improve the service to support your ideas for co-operative remembrance through reading out aloud for others.
