Guidance for new members

The Cinnaminta team recognise that the site is large and might initially appear complex to new members so we have provided plenty of live links (red underlined words) in the text and split up the 'tabs' which are used to access areas as follows:

  • The tabs across the top of the page ('home', 'search requests', 'assistance', 'what is Cinnaminta?' and 'archive') are for access to general information and "public" activity.
  • The tabs above the text are for access to pages within this section.
  • The tabs down the right hand margin are for access to your activity (messages, address book, add requests, upload readings and setting font sizes, etc.).

Remember this is an electronic system so you can't easily break anything - Login and click on a link - explore, search, discover and enjoy.

Partial screen caputure showing the Details tab on the right of every page for logged in members When you are logged in, click on the tab which shows your Cinnaminta public name (in the top right margin of the page) to check your messages and other details of your activity within Cinnaminta. You can access your requests, your readings, the Cinnaminta members' private message system and your preferences, e.g. email address, personal filters, etc.

We suggest that you familiarise yourself with the Cinnaminta site before you start to become an active member. The useful pages to start from are as follows:

Guidance for people who are new to the Internet

Cinnaminta is an electronic system. It doesn't get tired and you can't easily break anything. Nobody is watching, or judging, what you do until you actually make a request or an offer to read or send a message. You can experiment with it as long as you like to find out how it works without committing to anything.

The method by which most Internet users have learned how to use Internet services is more or less to click on things to see what happens; 'If all else fails, read the instructions'. However, it is probably best not to click on buttons like 'Add request' or 'Offer to read this request' or 'Send' until you are ready.

You can click on the red underlined links and the tabs and read the guidance, live requests and completed readings without committing to anything although you will get a much wider range of material to enjoy if you join Cinnaminta. Try clicking on this link to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) which include the answer to this question:

How can I practice filling in the reading request form without actually making a request?

If you do get completely lost, don't panic, just scroll up to the top of the page and click on one of the main section tabs (under the Cinnaminta banner at the top of each page) and you will get straight back to a page near the top of the pile. The 'assistance' tab is a good option as it has the site map.

regards, Cinnaminta
